Before you are able to analyse or export plots from your data you need to know how to format what you see to improve its legibility, as covered in this part of the tutorial.

2.1. Editing a track

2.1.1. Right-click editing

A number of entities in Debrief allow right-click editing using the mouse. For example, if you right-click over the Red track in the plot, a popup menu will appear:

Figure 2-1. Menu shown after right-clicking on the plot

The first item in this menu allows you to edit the individual vessel position (in this case the position at 0533z). The second menu item contains an expanding list of items. These items are "commands" which may be applied to the selected position item (although when you open the menu more items may appear):

2.1.2. On-off Settings

The items in this first part of this drop-down list are on/off settings for characteristics of this position item; in this case settings which specify whether the label or symbol are plotted. Selecting one of these items "toggles" that setting.

Following these on/off toggles may be a number of characteristics for which the value can be selected from a list (such as the colour of the point, the location of the text label in relation to the data point, the size of any symbol to plot at this point, and the format of the text for the label at this point).

The items in the last part of the menu are actual "commands". The three commands displayed reset the colour of the position to that of the whole track, reset the label used for the item to its DTG, and export the details of the position in Replay format to the clipboard.

Experiment with changing the value of "Symbol Showing" from this menu, you will see the symbol for the current point appear and disappear accordingly, you can also experiment with changing the colour of the symbol.
